This is my Link Building Tutorial Step 8

Sorry I skipped this step because I was off in some mystical realm. Don’t ask it is a secret.

So, forums are a great way to get some links to your site form a niche.

Warning! Do not over spam this , because it can make you look worse than you started out.

I like to find forums that interest me, and I actually want to gather some info on, and meet other people who are like me…crazy.

It is a good idea to talk on the site a few times before linking as well, so it makes you look even more legit which I know you are ;)

I decided to veer off for a second on our Link Building Tutorial path, and talk about Permalinks.

I am doing this because lately lots of clients have been having me look at their blog, and it looks real nice and pretty, and then I hover over a link, and there it is…dun dun dun…?p=123. Now for someone who knows nothing I understand what you are thinking. Rachael, so what? SO WHAT! I say. This means you have no title set up of category, and you are missing a perfect opportunity to get that keyphrase in there twice! When you change your permalinks you are changing it from:

http://yourdomain.com/?p=123

to

http://yourdomain.com/category/post-title.

Much better! Now you can have that SEO Juice Power, and tell people what the category and post is about.

If you have set it up, and you have lots of posts already, don’t fret. There are several permalink redirect plug-ins that do this for you without 404 errors.

Watch the video how to below:

Enjoy!

This is step 8 of my link building tutorials, and in this tutorial I am going to talk about how to get a .edu link.

Before we start I want to add that .edu sites are not any more important than a .com site, but a .edu sites normally will have a lot of weight in Google because it is a trusted source, has good PR, and is White Hat. Not many black hat college sites out there!

So here is how you can get that .edu link.

Step 1. Type : Your Keyword or Keyphrase+inurl:blog site:.edu

in Google, and you will see a list of .edu blog sites.

Step 2. Leave a comment on a blog post on one of the results that pulled up

*Remember to find sites that are in your niche, and remember to be kind and curtious.

SEO Phoenix Link Building Step 6-Comments

by Rachael Butts on January 25, 2010

This is Part 6 of my 12 Phoenix SEO Link Building Steps, so congratulations you are half way done!

In this link building step we are going to talk about how to post a link to your site by leaving a comment on other blogs.

This is really great because you can get a link from a site in your niche just by searching in Google and finding a relative site to post a comment to.

This also allows you to be seen and heard in your community as well.

* If you want your picture to show up next to your comment that you make everytime, simply go to Gravatar and make one for yourself. Now a pic of you, or your logo that you upload will appear everytime and any site!

Phoenix SEO Link Building Part 5 RSS/Blog Syndication

by Rachael Butts on January 22, 2010

Feed-Newspaper-256Part 5 of my 12 link building steps includes one of the simplest mistakes people make when having a blog is not having a burned RSS Feed. An RSS feed is your blog syndicated as a newspaper or article, and a burned RSS feed is kind of like having a publisher/marketer marketing your blog out on the internet. RSS feed stands for ” Really Simple Syndication”. It is the equivalent of having a newspaper delivered to your front door, except it appears in the reader of your choice i.e. Google Reader, Friend Feed, and even Email. So, what does that mean to you? Well, newspapers normally get passed around, and in ye olden times people would say, ” Hey, did you see what was in the paper the other day?” Same applys here. Google reader allows you to “share” what you are reading, and ironically enough every time you post to your blog it creates a link to the post itself.

The most common mistake people make is they never actually “burn” the feed that allows this to take place. Thus, no sharing, no links, just some words on a page. So, the way you go about burning your feed is by using Feedburner. It is by Google for Google, so it must be good right!

Inside-feedburner-64How to Set Up Your RSS Feed in Feedburner

1. If you do not have a FeedBurner account create one. If you already have Google account simply go to Feedburner and click “Claim your feeds now”.

2.Type in your feedburner username/password that you created . Then click “Next”

3.Type your feed address you want to burn and it will be http://yourdomainname.com/feed, or http://www.yourdomainname.com/feed , then click Burn a feed right this instant.

4Add your Feed Title, this can be whatever you want ( You will be able to change this later, but I always try to use my keyphrase, or phrases in the title) Also, add your feed address, and here I like to add my keyphrase as well.

5. Click next when you come to the screen ” Want to Dress it Up a Little”

6. Check the boxes under ” Get more Gusto” and click next

7. Under your feed title you can click edit and change that name, or url, if you dont like it, but stick with one after this if you can. If you are using a social media icon with rss feed, or feedburner feedsmith plugin this is now your feed url, you will need to change it.

8. Under the optimize tab I suggest setting your feed title/description burner, and also, under the Publicize tab selecting “email subscriptions, and activating it this lets people subscribe by email, and if you are using a service like Aweber, you can have it managed through that as well.

Now you are set, and can poke around in Feedburner, and see all it has to offer. Friendfeed can also burn your your Feedburner feed, and allow for even more sharing, but it might be phasing out.
