It’s a CMS ( Content Management System) NOT just a blog.

Say wha?! Ya, it is a common misconception that WordPress is just a “blog”. Well these aren’t your Grandma’s panties. WordPress has been around for years now and is running some of the biggest sites out there. Sites like Hulu, Fisher Price, Pepsi, and Best Buy just to name a few.

Ya, that’s right, and guess what you don’t even have to have a blog on it if you don’t want to, but why wouldn’t you…really?!

So, you kinda got me excited. What can WordPress do exactly?

How much time do you have?

• Blog ( of course)

• Photo Galleries

• Video Galleries

• Forums

• Shopping Carts

• SEO ( BIG TIME)

• Membership Sites

Just to name a few, all while being easy enough to many that ole grandma in her grandma panties can manage it.

Wait you said SEO…What is that, and how do I get it?

It is something everyone wants now-a-days. It means Search Engine Optimization, and with WordPress it is made, powered, live, eats, breathes SEO. Each page, and post on your site is pumped full of SEO friendliness by easily adding and editing meta title and meta descriptions right in your dashboard. Deep linking within your site. And Google eats new content for breakfast ( hence the blog). It has tons of plugins that help with all these things, and again, so easy a cave man can do it.

What in the heck is a Plugin?

Plugins are little mini programs that you can install into your site, again straight from your dashboard. They do ALL sorts of things. See that cool tag cloud that move in my sidebar…ya, that is a plugin…dang it I had you fooled for a minute didn’t I!

No, but all kidding aside WordPress has so many fun plugins that you could lost for days. Things like photo galleries, sidebar widgets, shopping carts, forums. The sky is the limit!

Oh ya wait…What in the darn tootin’ is a sidebar widget…stepped in what?!

WordPress is SO cool. That you can actually go into your dashboard, and drag and drop cool stuff into your sidebar. Like mine over there. I dropped a category widget, social media icons into a text widget, and my cool tag cloud. I know you probably saying. Rachael, I am not a WordPress designer that is way too hard. If it is too hard for you, then click away from my site, because there is no help for ya!

Social Media Sharing

With WordPress I can make my blog posts automatically post to my Twitter and Facebook without doing ANYTHING. It will put in my title and description with a link to my site. What does that give me? More links! and more Traffic. Yum…..Traffic. I can also add sharing icons to the bottom of my posts so other people can share my stuff too. What is the point of even having a site if no one comes to see it!

But I like cool sites with Flash…blah blah blah

Quit your whining. Did you see my header…ya, that’s flash. I said WordPress could do anything didn’t I? Well, it probably can’t see what you had for breakfast, but TMI right?

All, WordPress design look the same though…

Categories and sub-categories.

Categories offer you the links in the side navigation to provide sections that your visitors can click on. Categories offer great organization to your site, as well as huge SEO benefits, but you can contact me about all that.

Comment capabilities.

A ‘Comment’ is a feature that encourages your visitors to offer feedback or participate in a discussion about your postings. This feedback gives you an immediate connection with your visitors, and this helps you determine how to serve the needs of your audience more effectively.

With WordPress , you can choose to either receive comments or not. You can also choose to moderate comments, in order to manage derogatory comments from appearing on your blog comments.

Revenue-generating flexibility.

Businesses and marketers consider tools such as the WordPress blogging application with respect to how well these tools serve them to reach their desired outcomes – one of which is to generate profit.

With WordPress , you can easily add contextual advertising (like Google Adsense or Yahoo Publishers Network ads), links to merchants or suppliers you’re affiliated with, and also promote your own product and service offerings.
